How does your meter compare?

Health Canada recognized standards require meter accuracy to be a minimum of ±20% of lab results.1,2
CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter provides remarkable accuracy with blood glucose readings that are within ±10% of lab results.3
This means the readings from your CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter may be closer to lab results, which can help you make even better insulin dosing decisions.4
You depend on your meter to help you make important decisions with respect to blood glucose management. For example, you might rely on your meter to:
To have confidence that you are making the right decisions based on accurate readings, you need the values on your meter to reflect your actual blood glucose as closely as possible. A reading that is off by 15% vs. a reading that is off by only 10% could mean that you inject too much insulin or eat too little carbohydrates, which could put you at risk for a hypoglycemic episode.
Highly accurate readings, such as those provided by the CONTOUR® NEXT meters, can help you make the right decisions when they matter most.
Second-Chance® sampling lets you apply more blood to the same strip if you didn’t get enough the first time, helping to prevent wasted strips.
Coding is an adjustment made to the meter's electronic system to make sure the meter matches the blood glucose test strips and to ensure an accurate reading for every test.
All CONTOUR® meters feature the No Coding™ technology. This means they code automatically the second you insert the test strip. You don’t have to do any manual coding. No Coding™ technology helps ensure accurate readings, so you and your healthcare team can confidently make decisions and properly manage your diabetes.

CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter is easy to use straight out of the box:
Doing a blood glucose test with CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter is as easy as 1-2-3. You don't even need to use a computer.
Before you begin, you may need to charge your meter’s battery. To charge your battery plug your meter into the USB port on your computer.
CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter uses CONTOUR® NEXT control solution. Click here to order CONTOUR® NEXT control solution free of charge. Alternatively, you can visit or call Ascensia Diabetes Care Customer Care Support at 1-800-268-7200.
CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter uses CONTOUR® NEXT test strips, available by prescription. It is not compatible with the original CONTOUR® test strips.
Always keep the test strips in the original bottle and tightly close the bottle immediately after removing a test strip. The bottle is designed to keep the test strips dry. Exposure to room humidity from leaving the bottle open or not storing them in the original bottle can damage your test strips and cause inaccurate results.
Do not drop blood directly on the flat surface of the test strip. Your test strip is designed to easily "sip" the blood into the sample tip.
Check the expiry dates on your test strips and control solution to help ensure accurate results. Never use expired test strips or strips that have already been used. CONTOUR® NEXT test strips have Second-Chance® sampling, allowing blood to be reapplied to the same test strip if necessary during a test. You should always discard a used test strip.
To return to the main menu after performing a test, pull the strip out, and press and hold the Menu button.
AutoLog lets you mark your test result as Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal and No Mark, which helps organize testing trends, making testing even more valuable and meaningful.
Your meter comes with AutoLog already turned ON. Keep this feature turned on to get the most out of your meter.
When AutoLog is ON, a result will not appear unless marked as Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal or No Mark. Results above or below the set target range will always appear straightaway, even if AutoLog is switched on.
If AutoLog is ON and you were not able to mark the test before the high or low alert appeared, press the Notes button. You may now select Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal or No Mark by pressing the button next to it.
AutoLog can be switched OFF by accessing the Setup menu on your meter.
Viewing your testing trends can tell you the average of your test results in a certain time period, which can give you an idea of your overall control for that time. The Trends screen also shows you how many results were above, below and within your target range.
You can choose to view your 7-, 14-, 30- or 90-day averages. If AutoLog is OFF, the only screen that will display is the 14-day results screen, but this can be changed in the settings mode to 7, 30, or 90 days.
If you count carbohydrates (carbs), you can log your carbs information after testing or from the Logbook Menu. You can also add this information from the Logbook menu within 24 hours. Your CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter will store this information for you and display it in the Logbook. If you are logging carbs, you can choose from three carb units of measurement in the Setup Menu: Grams, Points or Choices. Ask your healthcare professional which unit of measurement to use. You can record your insulin dosage after testing or from the Logbook Menu. You can log insulin units in 0.5 unit increments, from 0.5 to 200 units. Your CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter will store this information for you and display it in the Logbook.
You may add notes to your test results to help explain them. From the test results screen, press the Options button. Press Notes and then scroll through the choices to select one: Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal, Time After Meal, Don't Feel Right, Sick, Stress or Activity. Press the OK button when your choice is highlighted.
The Logbook can hold a maximum of 2,000 entries. You cannot delete results from the meter memory, but when the maximum number of results is reached, the oldest entry is automatically deleted, so you always have the most recent test results stored.
Notes may be added to your test result to help explain results and to remind you about an unusual result. Your notes will be saved in the Logbook. You can add notes by pressing the Options button, then Notes button from the test result screen, and then selecting one of the choices from the drop-down menu: Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal, Time After Meal, Don't Feel Right, Sick, Stress or Activity.
If you select After Meal with AutoLog turned on, you can record Time After Meal. Simply press Notes in the Result screen and Time After Meal shows as an option. The default Time After Meal is 2 Hours. By scrolling up or down you can change the default to between 15 minutes and 3 hours. You can add multiple notes to one test result. The notes will scroll across the bottom so that you can read them all.
Once the test result is recorded in the Logbook on your CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter, you cannot add a Note. However, GLUCOFACTS® DELUXE Diabetes Management Software gives you the ability to manually add notes which are only visible in your Logbook Reports.
Your healthcare professional will help you set your appropriate target ranges. CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter comes preset with 3.9-7.2 mmol/L for Before Meal testing and 3.9-10.0 mmol/L for After Meal testing. These target ranges can be changed on the meter or in the GLUCOFACTS® DELUXE software.
Set a Reminder on CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter to remind you to test − any time, anywhere.
Certain error messages and the Reminder alarm will override the Sound Off setting, so you can still hear Reminders when the sound is switched off.
If you wish to charge your meter using your computer, it is recommended to use a high-power USB port to charge CONTOUR® NEXT USB meter. If the charging status displays "Low Power Charging," you should try a different USB port on your computer. Depending on the operating system, low-power ports may indicate that the USB device has exceeded the power capacity of the port. If GLUCOFACTS® DELUXE does not appear within a minute or so, another port should be tried.
The USB extension cable is included for your convenience when charging your meter or connecting to a computer.
The Illuminated test strip port makes it easier to test in low-light conditions and at night. Activate it by pressing the menu button twice.
To charge your battery, plug your meter into the USB port on your computer. You cannot test while the battery is charging. To check the charging status, press the Menu button while the meter is plugged in.
Normal charging is expected to take up to 2 hours in a high-power USB port. When charging is finished, the test strip port light will turn off. A fully charged battery should last for approximately one month, depending on how many tests are carried out each day.
Unplug the meter to test. If you wish to test immediately after disconnecting from your computer, please use the USB cable to charge your meter. This is because USB ports in some computers and self-powered USB hubs can be warmer than room temperature.
If the battery is low when you plug in your meter, it will Rapid Charge for about one minute. You can test as soon as Rapid Charge is complete.
You may wish to perform a control test if:
