Contour Next meter

Blood glucose meter readings may be
further from lab results than you think.

Industry standards have an acceptable error range of ±15%* between the meter reading and the lab reading on the same blood sample.

This means that your blood glucose meter reading could actually be 15% higher or 15% lower than the true value of the glucose in your blood.

CONTOUR® NEXT meters go above the industry standard by providing blood glucose readings that are within ±10% of the lab reading. This means that the reading you get from CONTOUR® NEXT meters will be closer to the lab results.

Why is accuracy important?

Accurate readings can help you make the right decisions when they matter most.

You depend on your meter to help you make important decisions with respect to blood glucose management. For example, you might rely on your meter to:

  • Allow you to make more accurate insulin dosing decisions
  • Tell you if your blood glucose is too low (hypoglycemia), too high (hyperglycemia) or just right
  • Help you make decisions about your food, activity and medications

To have confidence that you are making the right decisions based on accurate readings, you need the values on your meter to reflect your actual blood glucose as closely as possible. A reading that is off by 15% vs. a reading that is off by only 10% could mean that you inject too much insulin or eat too little carbohydrates, which could put you at risk for a hypoglycemic episode.

Highly accurate readings, such as those provided by the CONTOUR® NEXT meters, can help you make the right decisions when they matter most.

CONTOUR® NEXT METER – NOW APPROVED FOR MONITORING OF HYPOGLYCEMIA IN NEONATES!

CONTOUR® NEXT meter should not be used for diagnosis or for screening neonates for hypoglycemia. Diagnosis of neonatal hypoglycemia should be performed using a laboratory glucose method. For neonates with hypoglycemic symptoms, appropriate medical care to treat symptoms should be used and patients should be monitored. If symptoms are inconsistent with meter results, your healthcare professional should obtain a laboratory blood glucose test. The CONTOUR® NEXT blood glucose monitoring system has not been evaluated specifically with pre-term neonates.

Second Chance Sampling

Learn more about second-chance® sampling

Second-Chance® sampling lets you apply more blood to the same strip if you didn’t get enough the first time, helping to prevent wasted strips.

No Coding

Learn more about No Coding

Coding is an adjustment made to the meter's electronic system to make sure the meter matches the blood glucose test strips and to ensure an accurate reading for every test.

All CONTOUR® meters feature the No Coding technology. This means they code automatically the second you insert the test strip. You don’t have to do any manual coding. No Coding technology helps ensure accurate readings, so you and your healthcare team can confidently make decisions and properly manage your diabetes.

Test strips
Expand

CONTOUR® NEXT meter uses CONTOUR® NEXT test strips, available by prescription. It is not compatible with the original CONTOUR® test strips.

Always keep the test strips in the original bottle and tightly close the bottle immediately after removing a test strip. The bottle is designed to keep the test strips dry. Exposure to room humidity from leaving the bottle open or not storing them in the original bottle can damage your test strips and cause inaccurate results.

Do not drop blood directly on the flat surface of the test strip. Your test strip is designed to easily "sip" the blood into the sample tip.

Check the expiry dates on your test strips and control solution to help ensure accurate results. Never use expired test strips or strips that have already been used. CONTOUR® NEXT test strips have Second-Chance® sampling, allowing blood to be reapplied to the same test strip if necessary during a test. You should always discard a used test strip.

To return to the main menu after performing a test, pull the strip out, and press and hold the OK button.

AutoLog
Expand

AutoLog lets you mark your test result as Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal and No Mark, which helps organize testing trends, making testing even more valuable and meaningful.

Your meter comes with AutoLog already turned ON. Keep this feature turned on to get the most out of your meter.

When AutoLog is ON, a test result will not appear until it has been marked as Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal or No Mark. Results above or below the set target range will always appear straightaway, even if AutoLog is switched on.

If AutoLog is ON and you were not able to mark the test before the high or low alert appeared, select see options, then select Add Note. You may now select Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal or No Mark by pressing the OK button.

AutoLog can be switched OFF by accessing the Setup menu on your meter.

Trends
Expand

Viewing your testing trends can tell you the average of your test results in a certain time period, which can give you an idea of your overall control for that time. The Trends screen also shows you how many results were above, below and within your target range.

You can choose to view your 7-, 14-, 30- or 90-day averages. If AutoLog is OFF, the only screen that will display is the 14-day results screen.

Logbook
Expand

You may add notes to your test results to help explain them. From the test results screen, press the OK button when See Options is highlighted. Select Add Notes and then scroll through the choices to select one: Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal, Time After Meal, Don't Feel Right, Sick, Stress or Activity. Press the OK button when your choice is highlighted.

The Logbook can hold a maximum of 800 entries. You cannot delete results from the meter memory, but when the maximum number of results is reached, the oldest entry is automatically deleted, so you always have the most recent test results stored.

Notes
Expand

Notes may be added to your test result to help explain results and to remind you about an unusual result. Your notes will be saved in the Logbook. You can add notes by pressing the OK button when See Options is highlighted, then selecting Add Notes, and then selecting one of the choices from the drop-down menu: Fasting, Before Meal, After Meal, Time After Meal, Don't Feel Right, Sick, Stress or Activity.

If you select After Meal with AutoLog turned on, you can record Time After Meal. Simply select See Options, then Add Notes in the Result screen and Time After Meal shows as an option. The default Time After Meal is 2 Hours. By scrolling up or down you can change the default to between 15 minutes and 3 hours. You can add multiple notes to one test result. The notes will scroll across the bottom so that you can read them all.

Once the test result is recorded in the Logbook on your CONTOUR® NEXT meter, you cannot add a Note. However, GLUCOFACTS® DELUXE Diabetes Management Software gives you the ability to manually add notes which are only visible in your Logbook Reports.

Target ranges
Expand

Your healthcare professional will help you set your appropriate target ranges. CONTOUR® NEXT meter comes preset with 3.9-7.2 mmol/L for Before Meal testing and 3.9-10.0 mmol/L for After Meal testing. These target ranges can be changed on the meter or in the GLUCOFACTS® DELUXE software.

Reminders
Expand

Set a Reminder on CONTOUR® NEXT meter to remind you to test − any time, anywhere.

Certain error messages and the Reminder alarm will override the Sound Off setting, so you can still hear Reminders when the sound is switched off.
